Champion Spark Plugs

Champion pioneered the use of iridium in aviation and industrial spark plugs in the early 1970s. Now iridium, which has a stabilizing effect on ignition voltage and excellent wear characteristics, is quickly becoming the technology of choice for engine manufacturers worldwide.

Champion iridium spark plugs offer maximum performance regardless of engine or ignition type. Each plug has an extremely fine-wire iridium center electrode that is “laser-locked” to the center electrode, and a platinum V-trimmed ground electrode to ensure the longest life and greatest erosion resistance. Champion iridium plugs come with our exclusive Heat-Active™ alloy to reach operating temperatures quickly and maintain stable operating temperatures under varying engine loads.

Champion Platinium Power Spark Plugs

Champion Platinum Power spark plugs use a platinum pad welded to a nickel alloy center electrode for long life. The advantage of this design is that platinum has extremely good wear characteristics and can reduce gap growth.

Because Champion Platinum Power plugs maintain proper gaps, the voltage needed to fire the spark plug remains consistent, reducing the chance of misfire. Spark scavenging is kept to a minimum by combining a thin-wire center electrode with a V-trimmed ground electrode.

The electrodes use our exclusive Heat-Active™ alloy to reach operating temperatures quickly and maintain stable operating temperatures under varying engine loads.

Platinum Power plugs provide exceptional up-sell opportunities as replacements for engines originally equipped with standard nickel/copper spark plugs. They are also a direct replacement on many late-model OE coil-on-plug engines.

Champion Double Platinum Power spark plugs

Champion Double-Platinum Power spark plugs have platinum on both the center and ground electrodes. The center electrode is platinum fine wire that is riveted onto the nickel alloy center electrode. The ground electrode has a platinum pad welded to its surface.

Using platinum on both the center and ground electrodes provides longer life and minimal wear. In addition, Champion’s fine-wire and V-trimmed electrodes create sharper spark focus than conventional plugs. The electrodes on these plugs use our exclusive Heat-Active™ alloy to reach operating temperatures quickly and maintain stable operating temperatures under varying engine loads.

This plug design is widely used for a distributorless ignition with a Waste Spark design. In this kind of ignition system, one bank of spark plugs fires from the center electrode to the ground and the other bank fires from the ground electrode to the center.
